The financial support needed to implement the Foundation's plan is enormous. We need to close the gap between the shrinking availability of public dollars and the increasing need for more effective ways to enrich deaf education.
You play a vital role in helping NCSD students achieve lives commensurate with their potential.
Cash gifts are the most popular charitable gift. You can deduct cash gifts to the Foundation up to 50% of your adjusted gross income, as long as you itemize deductions on your federal income tax form. Any deductions exceeding the 50% limit are eligible for a five-year carry-over. Stocks, many bonds, and certain other non-cash properties can make excellent gifts to the Foundation.
When securities (and other qualified properties) have increased in value and have been held for at least a year and a day, you can usually enjoy greater tax savings by giving the property itself rather than giving the equivalent amount in cash.
Endowments: The Gift that Keeps Giving
Endowed giving is designed to provide a large and long-term base of constant support for the quality enhancement of the North Carolina School for the Deaf at Morganton.
Endowment giving is a way to set up permanent funding; therefore it is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Endowment giving is also a permanent naming opportunity and can be established to reflect the name of the donor(s) or someone they wish to honor. The endowment minimum can be set up to be payable over a period of five-years.
Your tax-deductible contribution to the NCSD Foundation may be designated in memory of an individual or to honor a special individual or event such as an anniversary or retirement.
Loyalty Fund Donations
The North Carolina School for the Deaf at Morganton Foundation Loyalty Fund makes it possible for alumni to support the school with their annual gifts. Each class can support one need-based scholarship for every $500 donated by and awarded in the name of that class. In addition to scholarships, classes may choose to fund facility and classroom needs, technological innovations, and special academic projects. Every class has the opportunity of giving to multiple projects, and their contributions will be recognized on a Loyalty Display at the school. Giving through the Loyalty Fund makes alumni support of the school a more personal and meaningful experience.
The Foundation's ability to offer scholarships is important in enabling many academically able students to pursue post secondary education who would otherwise be unable to do so because of personal circumstances. Scholarships also allow hard work to be rewarded. Endowed scholarships are naming opportunities established by a donor(s).
An agreement for endowed scholarships is established by the donor to determine the quantity, amount of the scholarships, application requirements, and renewability based on the earned income of the permanent principal invested.
Tim Shane Memorial Scholarship: This new scholarship established by his family for deaf students memorializes Tim Shane. Donations are gratefully accepted. Send your payment to the foundationm with the memo, "Tim Shane Scholarship," at our post office box.
Planned giving can be an important part of your overall estate plan. These gifts can reduce income taxes, reduce estate and gift taxes and reduce the cost of probate on your estate. If gifts are made with property that has increased in value, you may also avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciation of the property. You can also make long-term gifts by donating money or property to us and retaining the income or other benefits for as long as you live, or for the life of another beneficiary you name.
